Do you think you are healthy when all your blood test reports, blood pressure, etc. are normal?
Yes, one aspect of health is our physical health. And there are parameters to assess if your body is healthy or not. But are they enough to tell you that you are completely healthy? Haven’t you seen people who were always in a very good shape and out of nowhere they suffered a serious health problem? Why does this happen? What do they miss while understanding about their health?
Health is a complete state of wellbeing!
According to Ayurveda, having balance in the activities, movements of your Doshas, having a good digestion, and having well nourished tissues is one aspect of health. And the other aspect is, a pleasant state of mind and an equilibrium between your senses, mind and the Self.
If your senses are guiding your life, if your mind is full of stress then you are not healthy! If you are not happy then even your body cannot be healthy for a longer time. It will fall sick sooner or later.
A state where you feel that the body is functioning well, you are managing your stress well and there is a sense of calm in spite of all the odds around you, then you are healthy in true sense.
Health is a dynamic state
Your health cannot be measured all the time with the same parameters. Our body keeps changing every moment. There is tremendous exchange that is happening between your body and the environment around you, every moment. Your body is trying to maintain the state of balance through the process of homeostasis. The Doshas have their rhythmic influence on you. Feeling sleepy or tired after lunch is a natural process, it is not because of any imbalance. Experiencing dry skin in winter months is a natural process, not an imbalance. So, we literally cannot ‘define’ a state of perfect health by parameters. It is relative!
When we look at our health from this point of view, it opens up a new dimension. You can be more aware and relaxed about health. You will be able to pay more attention to your complete wellbeing and ultimately blossom in your wellness.
